US Law Enforcement Report Apprehension in Thwarted New Year's Eve Terror Scheme Close to LA

US authorities declared on Monday that they had effectively disrupted a elaborate plan to set off IEDs at several locations belonging to two US-based firms on New Year's Eve in the LA region. The operation resulted from the detainment of people associated with an militant group advocating for anti-corporate and anti-establishment beliefs.

Those Arrested Detained During Desert Dry Run

A quartet of suspects were taken into custody last Friday in the desert region situated east of Los Angeles as they were allegedly rehearsing their proposed attack. Federal attorneys presented aerial reconnaissance images to journalists, that depicted the suspects carrying a big obscure device to a table. Authorities noted that the arrests occurred ahead of the group could assemble a working bomb.

Names of the Those Charged Made Public

According to the filed legal filing, the four people named are a 30-year-old named Audrey Illeene Carroll; Zachary Aaron Page, 32 years old; Dante Gaffield, 24; and Tina Lai, who is 41. The group are said to be from the greater Los Angeles region.

Suspected Motivation and Group Affiliations

While authorities did not explicitly describe a rationale, they stated the suspects are part of a offshoot known as the Turtle Island Liberation Front. This entity allegedly urges "the working class to rise up and combat against the capitalist system," as per the court papers.

Each suspect is charged with include plotting and possession of a destructive device. Prosecutors noted that further charges are likely in the weeks ahead.

Details of the Reported "The Midnight Sun Plan"

Officials said that one of the accused had drafted a detailed blueprint last month to attack multiple commercial sites across Southern California on New Year's Eve. The locations were likened to "Amazon-type" logistical warehouses.

"This scheme was specific," the attorney remarked. "It contained a precise guide to build IEDs … and listed numerous sites across Orange county and Los Angeles."

Based on the case and legal filings, the plot involved placing bags containing complex pipe bombs that were planned to be detonated at the same time at midnight on New Year's Eve at five locations. New Year's Eve was identified as an ideal time as the scheme indicated "pyrotechnics will be going off at this time so blast noises will be less likely to be noticed."

The handwritten, eight-page longhand plan, called "OPERATION MIDNIGHT SUN," stated that more targets could be included. The sites were identified as premises and operations operated by two different firms involved in business involving national and international trade.

Future Plots and Proof Found

The investigation also stated that two individuals in the collective had planned later strikes targeting ICE agents officers and cars with explosives in 2026. One individual allegedly said that such actions "would take some of them out and intimidate the rest of them."

The plotting were reportedly planned both at an in-person assembly in Los Angeles and through an encrypted digital platform.

Pictures featured in the court documents depict a desert campsite with what investigators identified as explosives-manufacturing items laid out on portable tables.

Official documents notes that the group "all brought explosive materials to the location, such as various sizes of plastic pipes, suspected an oxidizer, fuel, charcoal powder, powdered sulfur, and items to be used as detonators, along with other items."

Instructions also included guidance on how to manufacture the explosives and how to prevent leaving traces that could be linked back to the group. The individuals had not long ago purchased components and other materials, including buys from major websites.

Apprehension and Aftermath

Federal agents moved in last week when the individuals were rehearsing the operation in the isolated region near Twentynine Palms. "They had every item they were necessary to construct an working explosive device at that place," the attorney commented.

In the course of executed raids, investigators allegedly found posters for the Turtle Island Liberation Front at one suspect's residence that advocated "Down with America", and "Eliminate ICE". At another individual's residence, police found a version of the comprehensive bomb plan.

The individuals were detained without incident. They were scheduled to appear in court in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.
