Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured Military Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Incident
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their honor.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a White House visit for the families of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president addressed the press. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Response
Mourners assembled over the weekend at the high school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s government program to support public safety in the capital.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers wished for. She behaved with quiet strength, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that inspired people around her,” the principal, the principal of her alma mater, told the media. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Judicial Measures and Policy Adjustments
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of homicide and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The incident caused the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and halt granting entry permits to holders of travel documents.
Status of Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on the program that she also intended to visit his relatives.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a law enforcement officer with excellence, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had bravery,” Morrisey told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
