This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”
The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
