Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his future following a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, representing the team's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received a lot of backing from above,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory naturally but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Reaction
The manager highlighted known shortcomings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell such as this with results so bad.”
He finished, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
