Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
