Followers Demand Custody of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the pop star are urging that a individual who jumped a fence and grabbed the performer during the recent Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A circulating video shows the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing photographers and rushing toward Grande while the actors walked down a yellow carpet accompanied by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being arrested", though legal records indicated that he was due to appear on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
Record of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram profile contains clips of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney show in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last winter.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is clearly a punishable act," commented an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Safety
Many fans criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented a further response on Instagram.
A number of supporters also criticised event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while others called for digital services to remove Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In videos shared widely, Grande seemed startled when she was touched by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of attendees had congregated in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore mall, including some who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The motion picture, to be released on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-part adaptation of the acclaimed Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely friendship between two contrasting characters.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of the previous year in the UK, and scored a dozen Academy Award nods, securing a pair for best costume and set decoration.
