American Military Executes Lethal Attack in Eastern Pacific, Leading to 4 Deaths

As stated by a high-ranking military spokesperson, the US armed forces executed a fatal kinetic engagement on a boat in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four people.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel linked to a terrorist group in international waters. Intelligence verified the vessel was traveling along a known drug smuggling route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. All four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no American forces were harmed.”

Background and Prior Actions

The statement comes a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund drug trafficking and other crimes, pledging to escalate the military buildup.

Only on Tuesday, the Pentagon said it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Justifies Tactics Amid Scrutiny

The government has faced growing demands to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a success, saying it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the limits of lawful warfare.

While the administration has said the campaign is about stopping drugs destined for the US, remarks from a senior aide seemed to suggest a broader geopolitical aim. In a recent interview, the senior advisor remarked the president “wants to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”

This indicates the military campaign may be linked to a strategy to oust Venezuela's current government.
